Avatar – The Last Airbender 2: the most mature and spectacular Netflix fantasy, a survival manual for adult life

The fantasy series “Avatar – The Last Airbender,” the live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon cartoon of the same name, has returned to Netflix and is more mature and spectacular than ever. The second season of the series arrives two years after the debut of a highly successful first chapter. There are seven new episodes ready to once again draw us into a world divided into Nations, each belonging to one of the four elements: Air, Water, Earth, and Fire. To maintain the now-lost world balance, an Avatar is needed, but it is a 12-year-old boy who has just awakened after being imprisoned for 100 years in an iceberg.

In the new chapter, we find the Avatar and his friends grappling with the terrible Fire Nation.

A second season that grows with its characters: more mature and spectacular

The settings of this second chapter are literally spectacular, as are the special effects that transport us to a world made of magic, flying bison, battles between Nations, and incredible powers.

The characters have grown up and, consequently, they appear more adult not only physically but especially from an inner perspective. This allows the series to delve into an even denser and deeper introspection compared to the previous season, making the series not just a classic fantasy for young people but a true survival manual for adulthood where many young people (and not just them) can see themselves in the psychological difficulties of the characters, finding a way to overcome them.

After a first season that focused heavily on character introduction, this time it delves deep into their souls, investigating the origins of their traumas and pains, making the narrative even more intense and attentive to the psychological dynamics of the protagonists. This season, in fact, seeks not only to amaze the audience with spectacular battles, magical powers, and plot twists but primarily aims to convey something more intimate: we are who we are because of the beautiful and ugly experiences we have lived thru, and the traumas that live within us can not only be managed but also overcome with the help of those who stand by our side.

From this perspective, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is a series that is good for the eyes but even more so for the heart, especially if it is wounded.

It is one of the best fantasy series on Netflix

The live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is one of the best fantasy series on Netflix and has succeeded in being credible compared to the animated series it is based on, while keeping its spirit alive, even allowing for cuts and modifications. From this point of view, this series succeeded in the same endeavor as the live-action adaptation of One Piece: it is not a copy of the original anime and it doesn’t have its “magic” and its details, but it has still managed to respect the essence of the original story, giving it a new form.

So, if you love coming-of-age stories where magic, psychology, and action alternate in perfect balance, don’t miss “Avatar – The Last Airbender” because this series will give you so much, especially from an emotional standpoint. And, in the end, this is what matters most when it comes to stories.
